Slate terms of use

Last updated: August 13, 2026.

Slate is a private voice journal made by HSLA0001 Inc. By using Slate you agree to these terms.

The subscription

Slate is a paid app with an auto-renewing subscription: $7.99 per month or $59.99 per year, after a one-month free trial. There is also a one-time lifetime purchase of $99.99. It does not renew, has no trial, and includes everything the subscription includes.

Payment is charged to your Apple account at confirmation of purchase. The subscription renews automatically unless it is canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel it anytime in your Apple account settings (Settings, your name, Subscriptions). Canceling the trial before it ends means you are never charged.

If your subscription lapses, everything already written on your phone stays yours. New entries, spoken or typed, require an active subscription or the lifetime purchase on supported devices.

Your content

Everything you record belongs to you. It lives on your device and, only if you turn on backup, in your own iCloud account. We never receive it, so we claim no rights over it and can take no responsibility for storing it.

Deleting an entry, or the app, deletes your data. There is no server copy to ask us to remove. There is also no server copy to recover for you.

If you choose to answer the optional survey on this website, your answers are submitted anonymously and become feedback we may use to improve Slate. Because nothing identifies you, we cannot locate or delete an individual response after it is sent, so share only what you are comfortable sharing.

The reflections

Reflections and weekly reviews are generated on your device by Apple’s on-device models. They are automated observations about your own words, offered as-is. They can be wrong, incomplete, or miss what mattered most to you, and no output of Slate should be relied on as a record of fact or a basis for decisions.

Slate is not therapy

Slate is a journal. It is not a medical device and not a health care service. It does not provide medical, psychological, psychiatric, or therapeutic advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and nothing it generates is professional advice of any kind.

Slate is not a therapist, psychologist, counselor, or clinician, and using it does not create a provider or patient relationship with us. It is not a substitute for care from a qualified professional. If you have concerns about your mental or physical health, talk to one.

If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, do not rely on Slate. Contact local emergency services or a crisis line right away.

The usual

Slate is provided as-is, without warranties, to the extent permitted by law. Our liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies where these terms are silent. We may update these terms; material changes will be reflected on this page with a new date above.
